  • Early evening: Ice-breaking party in a typical Brussels café and registration for the congress (included in the registration fee).

Monday, September 4:

  • 10.00. Plenary Opening Session with welcome by Henk Ottens, president of EUGEO
  • 10.15. Christian Vandermotten, president of the Belgian Royal Geographical Society, Member of the Royal Belgian Academy, Brussels inside Belgium, an intricate architecture
  • 11.00. Mario Telo, Free University Brussels (ULB) and LUISS (Rome), Member of the Royal Belgian Academy, EU and the evolution of the macro-regional dimension of global governance

Noon

  • 12.00. Opening of the Exhibition Geography as one of the Fine Arts. Mariano Felipe Paz Soldán's Geographical Atlas of Peru (1865), in presence of His Excellency Gonzalo Gutiérrez Reinel, Ambassador of Peru
  • 13.00. Paul Magnette, Minister-President of the Walloon Region, Can Europe tame the globalization ? Retrospect and prospect

Afternoon

  • 14.00-18.00 : parallel paper and discussion sessions

Evening

  • 18.00 : geographic walk through the neighbourhoods of the Canal Zone and Molenbeek in Brussels (free), followed by an evening multicultural buffet (option not included in the registration fee)
